SEARCHING
Tiny Winter Poem, day 4, written in less than ten minutes, prompt by Beth Kempton. The word today:
Searching
I woke one day knowing I must release frustration,
Let go of what used to be a given,
A passion performed daily with ease.
Stop my mind’s frantic whirling,
Searching for a way back to my younger days,
To my pre-injured days,
To days filled with horses,
With conversations about horses,
With friends with horses.
With horses horses horses.
Face the truth or sit with sadness.
Find another purpose.
Reinvent myself, reignite a former passion.
Spend days with words instead of horses.
My two passions now play together on the page.
My body feels the familiarity of horses as my fingers canter on the keys.
My heartbeat accelerates, thrilled by
A new story enriched by a lifetime of colourful experiences,
As well as trauma, loss, regret.
In this new version of myself,
Initiated by both searching and not searching,
I find fulfillment.
Once more at peace.
